Updated Course Map

Updated State Course Map ...

Tent up! Ready for Racin'

The HLS tent is up & ready to welcome our HLS XC athletes to what will be a fantastic day of racing!  It's in a similar spot as past years.  From the parking lot, you will walk toward the thin row of trees that line the starting line, is perpendicular to Leestown Road, and is parallel to Masterson Station Park entrance road.  The meet coordinators will be charging admission to the right of the trees at the roped off area near tent city.  The HLS tent is just left of the first tree.  Thank you Solon family & Kathy Thompson for getting to the meet early to set up.

Keep it positive and your runner will have a blast.  It's so exciting.  Don't forget to check out the XC swag ... in past years t-shirts and sweatshirts have been on sale at both the large pavilion (near the permanent bathrooms) and near the awards areas.

KTCCCA State

The KTCCCA state is tomorrow (10/22).  This meet is huge, therefore plan ahead and leave enough time to get to where you need to be.  Don't forget to check out the course maps, directions and race details on the right side of this blog under 'Meet of Champions'.

TEAM TENT ... Once you get to the meet, look for the HLS tent to check in with Coach.  Once the tent is set up prior to the first race, I will post a description on this blog as the location.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS ... Tomorrow is not going to be quite as warm as we expected earlier this week, however please DO NOT overdress your child.  Their uniform should be fine ... maybe a shirt under if your runner has an early race.  IF you choose to put clothing under your runner's uniform, don't forget that officials will be checking and will be disqualifying non-conforming runners from this meet.  That means HLS can only have plain long-sleeved white shirts under uniforms and plain black tights.  Any hat or ear warmer is acceptable.  Instead, layer them, so that they can strip their clothes off and hand them to you in stages ... their top layer should be shed after they walk the course and return to their tent for last minute drinks and bathroom break, their final layer should be shed at the starting line right before they race.

Their temperature will warm up quickly once they start running and if you have tons of layers on them, they will not perform to their best ability.  You may feel quite cool on the sideline, but remember your runner will be moving a bunch once the gun goes off.  My suggestion is to have someone from your family or a friend standing behind the starting line ready for your runner to do a last minute strip of clothing right before the official calls the runners to start.

TONIGHT PLANS ... should include a simple carb meal (like pasta) for tonight's dinner.  Take a look at the course map (on the right side of the blog) with your runner to help them familiarize themselves with the race.  A good night's rest is the other key ingredient to success.

Best of luck to each of our runners!

10/20 - Practice Cancelled

Cross Country practice at Beckley is cancelled due to weather.  Wet leaves on trails don't make good running conditions before State.  Instead, if it’s not raining, get outside and enjoy the fresh air by kicking a ball, playing tag, or taking a jog with your runner.  Have a good dinner, get your homework done, and pop your runner in to bed at a good time.  Those things will help your runner prep mentally and physically before Saturday’s big race.  Check the blog for race times, course maps and directions.

If you are interested in helping with the end-of-year banquet, send me an e-mail (stacy.odea@twc.com) and you'll be added to the distribution list.  For those of you that were going to meet after practice, I will send you an e-mail instead.  Banquet logistics will be sent out to the XC families by next week.

Looking beyond Saturday, today is the deadline to let me know if your runner WILL NOT be racing on 10/29 at North Hardin.  I still haven’t received meet logistics for the 11/5 meet.  Once I receive the information, I will forward it on to you.

1st Place ... multiple times!

Congratulations to the entire XC team!  The weather was beautiful, however the hills and wind were fierce!  For our first full team appearance at a KCAA Cross Country meet, HLS was amazing!  Congratulations to all that contributed to the Elementary Boys and to the Elementary Girls 1st place trophies.  Coach Wigginton delivered a trophy to both the Crescent Hill campus and the Spring Meadow campus incase you'd like to have a closer look at it or want a picture with your child!  Congratulations to the first place medalists ... Avery Hanel, Clayton Nau, and Ryan O'Dea.  So very proud of every runner's determination and supportive spirit with your teammates.  Wow, you've made quite an impression on the other teams!
