Hot Stuff!

Saturday morning four HLS middle school runners faced the heat at the HUGE Tiger Run XC meet located on River Road.  Avery Hanel (7th grade), Marlowe Hanel (6th grade), and Julia Bippus (6th grade) battled against 303 runners during their 3K race which included 6th-8th grade girls from across the region.  Ryan O'Dea (8th grade) represented HLS in the boys 3K race which consisted of 388 middle school runners.

Check out the race results on the right side of the blog.  All four worked very hard against their opponents and endured the extreme humidity!  Runners, fantastic way to start our team season!

School Starts this Week - Mark your Calendar!

With the school year upon us this week, our practices now change to after-school hours.  Check out the PRACTICE times & locations on the right side of the blog.

8/30 - Parents, don't forget that XC uniforms will be distributed at Tuesday's practice starting at 4:00pm.

9/03 - Saturday will be the first full-team meet for the season.  See meet logistics on the right side of blog.  Help prep your runner by insuring that they stay hydrated this week for humid afternoon practices and Saturday's race (remember the hydration starts 24 hours before running - have a talk with your runner about the importance of taking drinks throughout the day), eat balanced meals to build up their protein and carb levels (do I hear spaghetti dinners for all Friday night?), & get some sleep (no drive-in movie on Friday).

9/20 - Team pictures - wear your uniform to practice.

It's going to be a great season!  Let's get running!

8/27 - Practice Change

**** C  H  A  N  G  E     O  F     S  C  H  E  D  U  L  E ****

Tomorrow's (8/27) Saturday team practice is cancelled.  The team will not be meeting at the Shelby East Middle School (home of the 9/3 Shelby County Invitational XC meet) because the course in not prepared yet.  Instead, Coach Wigginton has asked that all runners 2nd-4th grade get in a 2 mile run.  Runners 5th & up get in a 2.5 mile run.  Beat the heat & get out there early in the day.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a hot one!

GOOD LUCK RUNNERS ....Good luck Marlowe, Avery, Julia, and Ryan!  These middle schoolers will be representing HLS at the Tiger Run tomorrow (8/27).  The course is flat & fast!  It should an exciting meet!  Per my earlier e-mail, we are meeting at 7:30am to walk the course and attach your bib & chip.
